Antminer S21 Hosting: Cost, Power, Uptime & What to Compare

The S21 family covers multiple models — the base S21, S21 XP, S21+ Hydro, and others — each with different power draws and cooling requirements. Hosting cost depends heavily on which model you own and how the provider bills for power.

Source note: Specific hardware specifications (wattage, hashrate) are not reproduced from model memory on this page. For exact specs, consult official Bitmain product documentation. Hosting offers shown below are drawn from the MineDocks sourced provider database and may not represent current availability.

Why power draw is the first number that matters

Hosting cost is a direct function of wattage. The formula is straightforward: the more watts your miner draws, the more you pay per month at any given $/kWh rate. The S21 family includes models with meaningfully different power profiles — air-cooled standard models and hydro-cooled variants have different wattage, different cooling requirements, and therefore different hosting infrastructure requirements.

Not all hosting facilities support hydro-cooled miners. If you own an S21+ Hydro or a similar immersion/hydro variant, confirm upfront whether the specific facility you're evaluating can physically support it — before discussing rate.

Modeled example — illustrative only

A miner drawing 3,500W at $0.070/kWh under actual-consumption billing at 90% uptime costs approximately $158.76/month in power/hosting energy.

A miner drawing 4,500W at the same rate costs $204.12/month — about 29% more per month, before any difference in hashrate efficiency is considered.

Billing model affects what you pay when the miner is down

S21-family miners are high-value hardware. When one fails and enters a repair queue, you stop earning mining rewards from that machine. Whether you also continue paying hosting costs during that downtime depends on the provider's billing model.

Under actual-consumption billing (where you pay only for active hashing hours), a miner in the repair queue stops accumulating hosting charges. Under fixed monthly billing, the charge continues regardless of whether the miner is online.

Given the relatively high power draw of the S21 family, the monthly cost difference between these two billing approaches at the same $/kWh rate — at 80-90% uptime — can be material over a multi-month repair or downtime event. See the effective hosting cost guide for worked examples.

Cooling and facility infrastructure

Most commercial hosting facilities use air cooling. Hydro-cooled and immersion-cooled miners require different infrastructure and may not be accepted at air-cooled facilities. This isn't about preference — it's a physical requirement. Confirm cooling compatibility before shipping hardware.

For air-cooled S21-family miners, standard facility requirements apply: adequate rack space, proper airflow management, and reliable power capacity at the miner's operating wattage. Ask whether the specific rack slot or row you're being assigned meets those requirements — not just the facility in aggregate.

Monitoring and pool visibility

Once your S21 is at a remote facility, you lose physical access. Your view of what the miner is doing comes from two independent sources: the hosting provider's dashboard and your mining pool account.

Provider dashboard

Shows what the host can see: facility-side miner status, online/offline state, and in some cases basic performance metrics. This is the host's view of your hardware.

Mining pool account

Your pool account shows what the pool received: worker-level hashrate, accepted/rejected shares, and earnings attribution. This is independent of the host's dashboard — and it's the view that directly reflects what you earned.

The gap between them

A miner may show as 'online' in the provider's system but be hashing below spec, or show as 'online' while directing work to the wrong pool. Pool data catches these cases; the provider dashboard may not.

MineDocks is being developed to help hosted miners analyze their pool worker data — to understand whether observed pool-side performance lines up with what the provider reports — without needing your hosting login or any credentials beyond read-only pool API access.

Questions to ask before shipping an S21 to a remote facility

  • Does your facility support the specific S21 model I own? (Air-cooled, hydro, or immersion?)
  • What is the current rate for this specific facility and miner configuration, and is it a fixed rate or subject to change?
  • Is billing based on actual energy consumption or a fixed monthly basis?
  • Does hosting billing continue while the miner is in the repair queue?
  • What is the SLA uptime target, how is it measured, and what remediation exists when it isn't met?
  • Can I choose my own mining pool, or is the pool assigned? Can I verify pool configuration independently?
  • What monitoring access do I have — and is it in addition to or instead of my pool account?
  • What is the process and timeline for hardware repair, and what documentation will I receive?
  • What are the minimum contract term and early-exit conditions?
